Damaris became "the First Lady of the Colony" when her husband succeeded Roger Williams as president of the Colony and later became Governor. Buried with her husband in Newport, Rhode Island. Jeremiah WESTCOTT⁽⁶⁾ was born in 1633 in Yeovil, Somersetshire, England. He died in 1686 in Warwick, Kent Co., RI. Jeremiah was a town officer in Warwick, 1664; freeman, 1672; lived on a farm there; died without making a will. The town fathers made one for him (as was the custom in those days).
His father, Stukely, gave him a farm for life adjoining the homestead farm and here Jeremiah passed the remainder of his life. Parents: Stukely WESTCOTT and Rosanna HILL.

Richard WESTCOTT⁽⁶⁾ was born in 1588 in Great Torrington, Barnstaple Bay, Devon, England. in Great Torrington. He died in 1651. Richard settled in Newton, Watertown, Massachusetts in 1636, later going to Wethersfield, Connecticut. Parents: Guy WESTCOTT and Mary STUKELY.

Robert WESTCOTT⁽⁶⁾ was born about 1618 in Somersetshire, England. He died on DEC 19 1675 in South Kingstowne. Died on Battlefield. In 1651, Robert is chosen a Deputy to the Colonial Assembly.
In 1652, is chosen Surveyor of bridges; also elected by the Assembly "General Sarjeant" (High Sheriff) to attend upon the sessions of the Court.
In 1659, is chosen Commissioner to the "General Court", and appionted one of four to mark out the westward bounds of the colony.
Robert was recorded as an inhabitant on June 5,1648.
On May 20, 1671 he took oath of allegiance at Kings Town.
He was "killed by the Indians in the late war," as records state. Parents: Stukely WESTCOTT and Juliana MARCHANT.

Samuel WESTCOTT⁽⁶⁾ was born on MAR 31 1622 in Yeovil, Somersetshire, England. Died Young. Parents: Stukely WESTCOTT and Juliana MARCHANT.

Stukely WESTCOTT⁽⁶⁾ was born in 1591/92 in Yeovil, Somersetshire, England.⁽⁶⁾ He died on JAN 12 1677/78 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., RI.⁽⁶⁾ *Freeman of Salem 1636, one of the 13 original proprietors of Providence, Rhode Island, settled in Warwick, Rhode Island 1648, eight times a member of the court of commissioners, General Assistant of Providence Plantations, 1653.
*In memoranda made in April 1656, by Benedict Arnold and found among his old family papers, stated:"My father (William Arnold) and his family set sail from Dartmouth in Old England, the first of May, Friday & arrived in New England (Thursday) June 24,1635. On board was Stukely Westcott 48 of Yeovil, and his wife with children: Robert, Damaris, Samuel 13, Amos 4, Mercy and Jeremiah. That Benedict, then twenty years of age, should have singled out the westcott's to mention in his memoranda, may be safely explained by his promising friendship with Damaris Westcott, then about fifteen years old, and who later became his wife. William is believed to have become a seafaring man living in Westmoreland County, Virginia. Arrived in America in 1635, with his brothers Richard and Daniel. These brothers were either Stukely Westcott's brothers, as I have them, or nephews. They were born in Great Torrington, Barnstaple Bay near the field of Wescote in the Devon area of England.
